Can't download photos to my Windows 10 laptop...?
When I connect my Canon EOS 20D to my WIndows 10 laptop, the computer recognizes my camera, but it doesn't transfer any photos from my camera to the computer. Do I need to download any special software to see them?

Open file explorer found at the bottom of your screen with a little file on it. Once open, look to the left, you will see local disk C, your card should be there. Open it up and find the DCM file, open that and then copy/paste picture to the file of your choosing, usually the picture file, also found on the left side of file explorer. It seems like you have turned off automatic download.

Mikey - You don't know what you're doing because you did not READ YOUR CAMERA'S INSTRUCTIONS MANUAL. That's what your camera's manufacturer included the camera's instructions manual in the same package your camera came in when you bought your camera. And, believe it or not, you actually PAID for that Instructions Manual; it didn't come for free.
Goodness sake, READ YOUR CAMERA'S INSTRUCTIONS MANUAL and learn about all the features, functions and options your camera offers you for best photography results. IF you read your camera's Instructions Manual, aside from the features, functions and options, you'll learn when and how, and where to located them on your camera to use them... AND you'll also learn how to get the best results and overcome difficult lighting situations, too.
Had you read your camera's Instructions Manual you wouldn't be here relying on others to tell you how to operate your camera... hoping someone doesn't misinform you.
READ YOUR CAMERA'S INSTRUCTIONS MANUAL and learn how to fully operate your camera.

Use a USB card reader (get one for CF cards) to connect your camera's memory card directly to the computer's USB slot. No need to install or download anything. Use Windows Explorer / File Manager to do the copying. It is good practice to format the card after copying everything to keep the card healthy.

Don't use a cable.
Remove the card from the camera and use a card reader to get the images into your laptop.
Both of my laptops have built-in card readers,
but for those that don't there are separate readers available at very reasonable cost.

Almost everyone who uses their camera to download images has problems at some time.
The best thing for you to do is get a USB3.0 card reader. Because the card reader uses USB3.0 it will download images 10x faster than your camera. The readers are plug-and-play requiring no special drivers to download. Your computer will recognize the device and will automatically install the necessary drivers. Most people who use card reader never have any connectivity issues such as yours. At just around $15 USD, they're downright cheap. From what I hear, there's not a whole lot of difference from one reader to the next. Personally I use the Hoodman USB3.0 card reader for my SD cards.

It would be the EOS utilities program you can download from Canon, but it doesn't support that camera under W10, according to Canon.
So get a CF card reader.
