It is not a set distance. There is a standard of deviation based on the time of year. The thing is that distance is subject to other masses besides the suns and the earths. The earth is constantly shifting its orbit depending on the influence of planets and theoretically even more distant objects.

It's 1 AU (astronomical unit) which is almost 93 million miles.
To put that distance in perspective, light travels at about 186,000 miles per *second* so it takes approximately 500 seconds (about 8 minutes 20 seconds) for sunlight to reach earth.
