Since when are kids allowed to bring AND/OR play on their phones in class?
I went to school in the 90's. We weren't allowed to chew gum in class, let alone play video games on our phones (if we even had a cell back then, only the rich kids did)

I have recently worked in some schools, and was appalled............APPALLED............at what goes on in most classrooms.
Kids sitting at their desks with headphones on, listening to rap music......and the Teachers don't care, because they are checking their 500th incoming Facebook message and commenting on what a collegue had for lunch-......
or playing on Yahoo Answers--during class time.
It seems both the kids AND the Teachers have totally and completely given up, and school is now nothing more than a 7 hour babysitting service........and you learn whatever you want from your I-Phone.
if you graduate bone stupid.......that seems to be fine for everyone.

The only thing we were allowed was a SLIDE RULE - no calculators then and certainly no telephones.
"Clackers" (don't ask) were a craze at the time - they were banned pretty smartly.

Since at least 2000. My kids didn't get cell phones until they were old enough to have a job to pay for them.

It depends on the school, but more and more schools are integrating technology and the internet into the classroom.
As far as playing on the phone during a lecture, same as any other time a student isn't paying attention. It's never allowed, but it happens all the time and often it's easiest to just ignore it.

Being able to access information on the internet is now part of what being human is. Having that connection and being able to get information is what kids are now learning. By allowing them to keep that access to information you are helping the child to learn to learn with it.

They aren't allowed. But if the phone is confiscated the parents complain their child is being persecuted.

It may be the last chance a child has to text her mother that she loves her before a Conservative shoots her and her classmates.

I also went to school in the 1990's. I didn't get my first cell phone until I was 19 which was 2001 I believe, but I digress. Kids are pampered little brats these days and the parents and teachers are to blame since they allow things like this to happen.
