Why do intelligent rational people feel the need to respond to or correct the things Trump says?

It's pretty clear that he will say or do anything as a ploy to distract or manipulate people to act in a way that ultimately benefits him. Why do world leaders try and defend themselves against his crazy statements rather than saying they won't dignify with a response or just not engage? Every news hour starts with something Trump, even if it's not actually important, just because it is sensational. I just don't get why people who are mature and rational feel they must acknowledge his behavior.

I think it's more for the sake of those who force themselves to believe him. Literally *everyone* knows he's lying, but those in the cult will ignore good sense and force themselves to believe obvious lies. The rest of us correct him as often as we can in an attempt to keep such things from being normalized.

I totally agree, but I think it speaks to how people react when strongly held beliefs are challenged. We feel that things should be fair and just, and that reason should rule the day. So when we are the victims of gas-lighting, there is dissonance between what is actually happening, and our belief that the world should be another way. It is a blow to the core of how we feel the world should be, and we seek to correct that imbalance. Given that there are only two obvious choices: to admit that life is unfair, that bullies get what they want, or that there is simply a misunderstanding of reason, we choose the latter because the former is catastrophic to our strong held core value system.

What is funny is that even though the media is controlled via Operation Mockingbird, he can still use it to get his message across and also to willfully misdirect.

The MSM have not worked that out yet. They think they are winning! Just look at the amount of coverage he got during the election even though his budget was much smaller than Hillary's.

Because if no one says anything, in the absence of any opposition, Trump will claim that everyone agrees with him and idiots will believe it.

Laughing here. It never fails to amuse me when the simple minded try to tout their self described 'intellect' and 'rational thinking'. Friend, you don't have a clue what is going on. It would show intelligence and rational thought to first realize and then appreciate that fact. Men like Trump work on a level and with a complexity that would flatten you. Take that as constructive criticism and instead try to learn from the experience.

You obviously feel the need to talk about it. There isn't anything that he has said or done, that he hasn't warned he'd do.
