Is it bad to text your boss?

I just started a few weeks ago and was going to text my boss that I'm available for more hours if ever needed. Is that okay to text, or will it look unprofessional if I don't talk to him in person?

    Talk to the boss in person during working hours. Texting and communicating after working hours is how you run into HR problems and inappropriate behaviors. Keep everything open, honest, professional and upfront.

    I will text once to be honest. If your boss don't think is appropriate they wont response or they will let you know not to text any more.
