How do you cook oatmeal in the microwave?
I've been struggling with this for months. The directions on the box don't seem to work. I use 1/2 cup oats and one cup soy milk. I've tried less soy milk. covered or uncovered. full power or less. 3 to 5 minutes. The one thing that I sort of figured out is that a ceramic bowl is important. Sometimes it comes out watery. Sometimes it boils over.

1/2 CUP OATS, 1 + 1/4 CUPS MILK [or 1/2 milk & 1/2 water], SUGAR TO SWEETEN [maybe 2 teaspoons, if liked].
IN A LARGE BOWL [I use pyrex], M.WAVE FOR 2 + 1/2 MINUTES [at 800watts] STIR IT, THEN M.WAVE A FURTHER 2 MINUTES [or till its your desired thickness], SERVES 2 PEOPLE GENEROUSLY, OR 4 FOR A BREAKFAST WITH OTHER ITEMS / FRUIT E.T.C.
I only add a sprinkle of sugar while cooking, then have honey with the hot oatmeal [I'm cutting down on sugar].

get a bigger bowl.
Cooking something like this is a stop/start deal. cook till its nearly run over, stop, stir, cook again till it nearly runs over, stop, stir, start again until its as thick as you like it.

Use a larger bowl. Half a cup of oats and about one-and-a-quarter cups of milk or water. 2 minutes on high.
