Should the School System be Privatized?

Corporations can provide the latest technology and teaching to our students. Government schools haven't made any progress in the last 40 years. Isn't it time to give corporations the job of teaching our kids for their work places?

There's no good answer to this issue.

The school system should never have been made public in the first place. It started a gradual movement of activists trying to change the world by changing the values being taught.

But people are not good at selecting quality in the face of price differences.

The flaw with the business model for healthcare or education is that in the real world businesses compete, undercutting each other, often at the expense of maintaining standards - and in the process some will fold. You can't let that happen to hospitals or schools which are essential services if those in failing schools are not to lose out.

As soon as it becomes a business, the education system will only benefit the wealthy. It needs to be a public system to ensure those in the lower income brackets can still have access to one of the essentials of life.

...and still be able to be afforded by you. Doubtful. I've nebver heard anyone who's actually had to use a government service (public school, fire, police, etc.) say they should be privatized. It's always the ones who have no idea of the benefits of free (paid by taxes) services that speak out against them. Fine, we'll stop taking your taxes to pay for the schools...now start expecting a $1200 bill in the mail each month. Drew Carey is different...he's his own special kind of weird. Great actor and awesome person minus politics.

No. "Privatize" means "for profit". As soon as that happens, education is no longer the primary goal; the primary goal is making money.

Or we could just fund public schools properly.
