how do you ask off when you just start a new job?
i m in a pickle. i just got hired on part time nights and weekends at a deli. thing is hubby and i are suppose to help host an anniversary party for his parents. we even have $200 involved in helping. should i ask off now or wait till the week of to ask off? i have to be there because we are helping host it. its on a sunday at 2pm. my shift will be 5pm - 9pm i am sure. the party is out of town so i can t go then come to work. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!! :).

You should have told them when they hired you since you are new.. Since you didn't the more time you give them the better. Ask now.

Give your employer at least 2 weeks notice. Don't wait until the week of the party. Your boss needs times to rearrange the schedule.

You must ask NOW. ASAP. The earlier you ask, the more time the deli has to find a replacement. Understand that your boss does not have to give you the time off. He can refuse.

Ask for the time you need as soon as possible so that the manager can make arrangements well in advance.
"Boss, I know I just started this job, and I'm really grateful that you're giving me this chance. But I have made plans in advance with my family to host an anniversary party on such-and-such a date and time. Is there any possibility I can have that day off?"
