It can be if you're there with the right person. A gondola ride can be very romantic as is wandering along the canals in the early morning when there aren't crowds of people

Can be, when it's not too crowded and early in the morning.

I agree with some of the above - there are crazy busy times in Venice - but these are mostly in the walk between the station, Rialto and San Marco.

If you stay in the old centre, the early mornings and evenings calm down significantly as the day trippers - especially from the cruise ships - leave.

Even in the day, if you get off the main tracks you can find nice little parts where you can enjoy a peaceful walk with your loved one....

It can be.........but then any place can be romantic, if you are with the one you are all loved up with.

Venice, however, is a little like Epcot center....tourists from all over the world, you will stand in long lines to do anything, and pretty much a tourist rip off mecca.

But if you can get Beyond all that.......all the stuff that people go to see in Venice, is still there.

You just have to battle 5 Million other tourists to see any of it.

No. It has been a tourist trap for 500 years.

My good friend and Italian cousin use a key word to describe places that have been overrun by cruise ships, T shirt shops and hot dog vendors - Disneyland. Venice is that in a big way. Underneath the city is lovely, yes.

no ..been there a few times ..disappointing more likely ...the waters are very dirty and smelly ..the buildings are grubby ...and all the gondola`s seem to be powered by engines

Frankly, it's crowded and touristy. Yes, it's beautiful. It's also a bit of a zoo. Many tourist hot spots are these days. If you want romance, try someplace a bit smaller. Salzburg and Hallstatt are both nice, and not so crazy.
