Ask people who have had to undergo the procedure for medical reasons in later life and they will tell you how it damages sensitivity.

Of course it is and it is mostly unnecessary. Sometimes the foreskin cannot be drawn back over the glans in a condition called phimosis. This does not become obvious until the boy is around seven years old so there is no need to circumcise before then. Often these days, the boys are encouraged to manipulate the foreskin during masturbation to try to stretch it so that circumcision is not necessary.
