Why did the police do nothing when sex abuse victims went to them for help ?

Surely this is a dereliction of duty?

Update:

I am referring to things in the UK when the police didn't investigate since they had this attitude that "they were asking for it"

    If one does not go to a hospital to get a rape kit, it can easily turn into yet another case of he said-she said. Some women lie about 'abuses' that never happened, just out of spite or other issues.

    police investigate possible crimes ... it is the DA who decides what to do. or not do.

    Sometimes there is nothing they CAN do. There has to be actual evidence to arrest people.

    If you are referring to Christine Ford, she never went to the police. She went to a politician.
