How do religions see mental illness?

I have a fairly bad one, but I was wondering how religion can explain being this way

Like surely it means that my soul etc. is faulty which kinda questions the fundamentals of religion

    religion is just a word

mental illness is a physical state of the mind

It has nothing to do with devils , evil, magic or the rest ot that "religious " rubbish

your soul is open to God in a mental issue condition and he alone decides if your actions are for good or evil

Actually the bible says we are all flawed.. So I figure, God being (surely) both life, itself, and perfection, that makes imperfection the opposite of life! Which explains why God sent a savior! "God is the savior of all" 1 Tim 4:10. Jesus said He will draw all to Himself, John 12:32.

So, to me, that's the answer to all things. And I consider we all have some mental illness.. Who knows how much? Only God and He's got the cure! May as well get on board early soon as later..

Judaism and Christianity distinguish mental illness from spiritual issues.

Any time we are not into it with all our hearts, minds and souls, we are ill and not living up to our full potential. That is universal and is reality anywhere including in religions. But that is OK if we are not in survival mode. If we are in survival mode that can be worse than sick. It can be fatal.

"When they came to the crowd, a man came up to Jesus, falling on his knees before Him and saying, 'Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is a lunatic and is very ill; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him.' And Jesus answered and said, ... 'Bring him here to Me.' And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured at once.

"Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, 'Why could we not drive it out?' And He said to them, ... 'But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.'"

Jesus had the power and authority, as God, to heal no matter what was the psychological or physiological or spiritual cause. Jesus had given His disciples the authority to cast out demons as part of of a discipling "field trip". They were generally successful but not in this case, and brought the problem to their Master. The key is Jesus' answer to why they could not "drive out the demon". To which He said, "But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting". Whether it is a stubborn demon or a non-spiritual cause, physical or mental, Jesus points to "fervent praying".

"The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much" (James 5:16).

No one's soul is "defective" or "faulty", but without the saving grace of Jesus, we carry our burden of sin without redemption.

Jesus said the following regarding rest, peace, and burden:

"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (John 14:27)

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light." (Matthew 11:28-30)

Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:13-14)

Here is a list of some Christian based medical facilities for treatment of mental illness:

    https://www.honeylake.clinic/christian-mental-heal...

    https://thetreatmentspecialist.com/christian-rehab...

In the serious exorcism movies, when the clergy members are consulted about a possible demon possession, they in turn consult the medical professionals as a first resort. Exorcism is performed as a last resort upon the consent of the patient and legal guardians.

Only some misguided religious followers refuse medical attention if favor of idle wishful thinking. This feeds the misguided religion haters misinformation about what Christianity teaches.

I don't know how religions in general would see your mental illness. But as a Christian I can tell you how I see your mental illness and I will so that you will know how a proper Christian thinks. A person who has been diagnosed by a medical professional to have a mental illness doesn't have that mental illness because he has some kind of a moral defect or God is punishing him for some kind of sin. That person might manifest some kind of moral defect because of his uncontrollable condition and mental illness. A Christian will show mercy and compassion upon such a person and so will God and at the same time I understand that that person's mental illness might cause that person that has that mental illness to violently attack or to do something else that I normally sane person would not do.

So while we as Christians will have compassion you must also exercise due care.

Knowing that it is possible for a person with a mental condition to attack or be harmful.

It depends on the religion. Traditionally, Christianity has seen it as demonic possession. And while pagans don't rule out spiritual possession, we usually assume you have a chemical imbalance in your brain that could probably be corrected with the right medications.
