Prince Charles & Camilla dated before she married Andrew Parker Bowles. If Camilla has always been in love with Charles, then...?
why did she marry Andrew? And, if Prince Charles has always loved Camilla, why did he not fight for her, but instead let her marry someone else? Was their love not a great love?
It has been said that Camilla is one of the few people that can tolerate Charles’ peculiarities and properly stroke his fragile ego. Is this the primary basis of them being together?

Arranged marriages?

Camilla had been seeing Andrew Parker Bowles first; she had set her sights on Andrew and wanted to marry him. Charles came a long at a time when Andrew was being a bit difficult. Camilla liked Charles, but it was not an exclusive, long-term dating relationship. Charles and Camilla only saw each other for a few months, not years; Camilla had been dating Parker Bowles for years. Both Charles and Camilla were free to see other people and it was only after the fact of the marriage to Andrew Parker Bowles that Charles realized that he really loved Camilla.

Charles and Camilla had dated for several years when they were in their 20's, and everyone who knew them said they were in love. Charles kept dragging his feet, instead of proposing to her when he had the chance. Camilla got tired of waiting for a proposal that it seemed might never come, and so she married Andrew Parker-Bowles instead. (Whom, it was said, was the man she had always wanted).

Camilla wasn't aristocratic, she was just an old common donkey. Diana was an aristocrat. They couldn't choose then and only married other posh people.

Basically, Camilla was considered an unsuitable match, and Charles required his mother's consent to marry, so it was game over. As such, Camilla got on with her life, and Charles was hardly in any position to stop Camilla marrying someone else.
And no, I don't think it's about ego stroking at all. Nobody has a forty-five year relationship based on ego-stroking.

This question has been asked dozens of times. It's become boring.
There is no reason to believe that Camilla was "always" in love with Charles. Back then, in fact, she seems to have been more interested in Andrew Parker Bowles, and Charles, for his part, was apparently unready to get married in his mid-20s (who can blame him?) and had naval service to complete.
Their relationship doesn't seem to have become serious until it resumed in the late 70s, by which time Camilla had realized that Andrew was a serial philanderer, and Charles had run through a series of other women without falling in love with anyone else.

Only they will know the facts - and really, it's none of our business, is it?
Life, and love, are complicated.
And it's not for us to judge.
They're together now, very close, very happy.
Can't we just butt out now?
