La is more fast-paced and city-like. San Diego has more open/genuine people.
If you're considering where you want to move to, I definitely suggest checking out places. There's nothing like truly experiencing the vibe of a place once you're actually there!

San Diego has better weather and is smaller.
Los Angeles is bigger, has actual sports teams, is closer to the mountains if you like to ski, and has a more vibrant arts scene.

After visiting both, I'd have to say San Diego. But both are quite dreadful. I personally just don't like big cities, so LA is torture to me.
