I need help. I want to work in a restaurant, but I only want to work M-f 8am-4pm and be off major US holidays, Christmas Eve, New Years Eve.?

Is there a way to make this happen?

Update:

Ok, I would be willing to start as early as 6am as long as I'm only working 8 hours.

Update 2:

The reason I want off for weekends, major US holidays, Christmas Eve, and New Years Eve is to be with my grand kids.

Apply to a food service contractor for a Federal Government office division. They observe all Federal Reserve holidays, pay decently, but it's pretty much mind-numbing work.

Sometimes you might have to work on a holiday. Usually most jobs have a list where you can sign up to work the holiday, but if the staff is going to be short, you maybe called to work.

You can make the rounds of restaurants in your area. If you have experience working in restaurant jobs, that will help. For some reason, "Help Wanted" ads and signs are quite plentiful just now.

You'll have to negotiate holidays, and you won't get paid at all when you're off. (Some places pay time-and-a-half or even double time for holiday work.) You will probably have to compromise about which holidays you can take.

M-F 8am-4pm is not quite a full-time job, because of lunch breaks. It's only 35 to 37.5 hours a week.

All in all, you're really asking a lot, for a person newly hired in a restaurant job. Reality will bite you in the butt soon enough, anyway.

LATER: The school cafeteria idea sounds like it might work.

    Get a signed contract.

It's unlikely you can start at 8. Too early for a lunch/dinner shift, Too late for breakfast. Perhaps, if you want to work in the kitchen, you can train as a prep cook who would come in after the breakfast rush to prep for dinner and then leave before dinner is served. Try to find a restaurant that is CLOSED on all major US holidays. Maybe hospitals. They are rarely open for dinner, rarely open on weekends, rarely ever open on holidays! Maybe a school cafeteria.

If you want to work as a food server... You're basically asking to serve lunch but do a lot of side work for hours. I'd not hire someone who came in with your demands but that doesn't mean someone else won't! Problem being that you want a full time job that doesn't include any busy hours except lunch. What are you offering that would make you a valuable employee? I'm not saying you wouldn't be.. but you need to figure out what is so special about you that you deserve special treatment.

When you get hired, tell them you've had a trip scheduled too hawaii for a year over christmas. NYE too may be an issue unless u just flat out take off Xmas through NYE when u tell them aboit your Hawaii trips two week vacay.

    Not likely.
