What is the polynomial function for finding the number of o-rings expected to fail given temperature t?

I remembered seeing it once, maybe from a book. I tried looking for it on the internet but to no avail, maybe my search terms weren't sufficient I don't know. So I was hoping that maybe some of you guys know what it is or where I could find it. We need examples of polynomial functions applied in the real world, I hope you can give me some ideas of those as well. I greatly appreciate it! Good day

try the Poisson distribution -- that's for calculating the number of rare events that actually occur and can be used to determine the probability of more than N events quite easily

That is likely to be a normal distribution, which isn't a polynomial.
