I think it is a waste of money. A border wall would cost tens of billions to build and millions per year to maintain. At most it would add five or ten minutes to the time it takes people to cross illegally or just force them to find another way around. Most illegal immigrants don’t cross the border illegally in the first place, so it will do nothing to stop the majority of illegal immigration. A wall would also require the government to confiscate millions of acres of private property through eminent domain. It would also harm wildlife by restricting their movements.

In short, I see a lot of downside and little to no upside.

It has not yet passed the Senate. I suspect the reason Schumer & Pelosi were so adamant they wanted the news media banned from their meeting with Trump at the WH was because they wanted to offer a deal if Trump would change it from "for the wall" to "for improved border security".
