As the father of a son who is now an adult I can tell you it is sometimes necessary to threaten physical violence to keep a young man in line. That would include punching in the face, however, following through may be problematic.

Talk to your guidance counselor at school about what might be happening at home. It is NOT "normal" to threaten to punch anyone in the face, but it;s very hard to be the parent of a teenager. It's not any easier than being that teenager. Ask a trusted adult to help you work this out, because you're not old enough to move out yet. In some circumstances, it can help to live with another family temporarily- if there is someone you could move in with (such as a relative or friend's family- NOT a GF)- which you could do if you had your parents' permission.

It's not normal (or at least it shouldn't be) and it's not legal. If you're under 18 years of age, it's considered child abuse. If you're 18 or older, I think you can have your father arrested for assault and battery (at least in the U.S.).

Is it normal? No.

Is it legal to threaten to hit you? Probably. Threats don't mean much.

I'm guessing the real illegal thing is what you did to make him mad.

It's not normal, moral or legal. Tell him the next time he does it, you will take a selfie and go to the police and file a criminal complaint.

It is not normal. It is not legal. You need to speak with a trusted adult at school, not to bust your dad, but to talk out wtf he's doing to you and how it's affecting you. There's no harm in just talking to someone. You should not have to deal with this on your own.
