    Vacuum it first.

If it's cleanable at all, you should be able to put it in the washing machine, just not allow the machine to agitate.

Start up the empty machine with hot water, put in a *small* amount of soap, then flip it over to cold and fill.

then put the dog bed in, distributing it evenly and pushing it into the water.

Let it sit for 15 minutes, let it agitate a couple of times, then twirl it over to SPIN, and spin it at least twice.

The adjust it to RINSE, let it refill, and repeat the process, and spin it a couple of times until it's as dry as you can get it.

Hang it to dry as much as possible, THEN out it in the dryer for 5-10 minutes with a dryer sheet or two.

And don't ever buy a dog bed that says it should be surface cleaned again.

Get one of these instead- they're washable, don't lose their shape, and last for years:

wash by hand in a tub of warm water and mild or scentless soap. rinse real good and squeeze all the water out.

Hang until it is fully dry. throw it in the dryer for 20 minutes before hanging

try vacuuming it first to remove the mud and hair and then plop in the bathtub. add a squirt of soap and fill the tub..squish the bed around, folding over, squeezing, etc till you get dirt out of it. Drain the tub and rinse in the same way.

Squeeze till all the water is out of it as much as possible and then hang it outside so it drains some more and air dries.

THEN before you put it down for the dog again, make or buy a cover for it.

I would think a slip cover for cushions of an arm chair or sofa would work very well for the dog bed. It doesn't have to fit perfectly. Or maybe a crafty friend can help you make one. You could use a flat sheet bought at a second hand store(slick material doesn't hold dog hair like fluffy stuff does.the bed will still be soft and warm but easier to clean too.

Pintrest has lots of patterns and ideas for do it yourself slip covers for dog beds and some are even no sew options.

First vacuum with a vacuum hose. Get everywhere, go over it again. It should pick up most of the dried mud. The using a wet towel or a soft brush wipe it down
