Yes. All of the above at different times. We generally eat twice a day. If a continental breakfast is available, take advantage and don't eat again until dinner, except maybe a snack or two. Coffee, a bagel, a banana, OJ, and maybe some cereal. Good to go!
I budget $15/day/person. Free breakfasts help a lot. Splurge on a fancy meal at least once per trip.

It's not all about food you know
Road trips are a journey. I've been on plenty (I have been to 6 states in the course of the last 4 weeks)
It's enjoyable to take your time and hit up the memorable stops, stretch, and get out the camera to capture the moment.
Therefore after a long drive I get to one of the major cities like Salt Lake or Reno, and have a big dinner.
Continental breakfast must be taken advantage of, I'll agree.

I tend not to eat breakfast, it weighs me down, but if you need to eat..eat well
