Is there an anime as legendary or as heart-breaking as Clannad or maybe something more intense?

    An excellent legendary anime is Ronin Warriors. Also, try out Shinzo (and) Rurouni Kenshin.

    Grave of the Fireflies was more heart-wrenching, and it has reached that status way before Clannad even exists on VN.

    There's also Barefoot Gen that has the similar vibe and theme like Grave of the Fireflies, but it covers far more gruesome things and also the horrors of war.
