What is causing me acid reflex?

Everytime I eat certain things I start getting mucus so I went to my doctor and he told me it is acid reflux however, he did not tell me what causes it? Also, what to avoid?

Acid reflux is a common problem when the acid in stomach leaks out and spills into esophageous giving that uncomfortable sensation. Usually it is because of increased pressure in abdomen pushing stomach up or it may be due to lower esophageal sphincter (a valve that keeps the esopahgeous and stomach separate) being weakened.

    Things you can do:

    - identify certain trigger foods (like high fat foods, tomatoes and citrus fruit, chocolate, spicy food, caffeine, mint) and avoid them

    - take antacids and medications to reduce acid production

    - maintain a healthy weight

    - avoid alcohol and stop smoking

    - don't overeat and eat slowly

    - remain upright for at least 2 hrs after eating

    - avoid tight clothing

    - dont eat for 3-4 hrs before going to bed

Best person to talk to is your doctor. Hope i helped :)

Firstly, don't eat too close to bedtime.

Second, keep a food diary and use it try to link the things you've eaten to the symptoms.
