I took a vacation to Portugal, Gibraltar and southern Spain, so it was a nice mix of both. There are plenty of historical sites, and amazing beaches and seascapes.

This depends on you. If you feel like relaxing, then relax. If you feel like exploring, then visit historical sites.

I believe this is down to the individuals. My late wife loved visiting historical sites.

I try to work both into my vacation. I love historical sites but don't want all my vacation going to them.

I spent two weeks in Greece and found that a mixture of both was a good combination. Awesome historical sites that I wouldn't miss and also mountains and beaches that were great.

There is not 'better'. There is only personal preference. As nobody else is you, nobody here can give you a valid answer.

To me, there is something spectacular about visiting historical sites.
