If you really wanna see somewhere breathtaking, that is largely overlooked as a tourist destination, go to Luxembourg, especially Luxembourg City! I visited there last November, and the place is amazing. The medieval city walls and fortifications, are UNESCO world Heritage listed, and for good reason. I have travelled extensively in Europe over the years (I am Australian) and I have yet to find anywhere as stunningly beautiful, as this little hidden gem.

Second on my list of amazing, but largely overlooked countries, is Lithuania. I visited there 4 years ago, and it is a beautiful country, with many hidden gems. Vilnius, the capital, has an old town that is considered the best old town in Europe, with cathedrals and churches well over 1000 years old.

There are many other beautiful places too, like Slovenia, Croatia, and others, that are also stunningly beautiful, and well worth the visit, but Luxembourg, and Lithuania, IMHO, are 2 of the finest, and will literally blow you away.

Europe is a continent made up of over 50 countries, so its rather vague to refer to a continent rather than a general country.

What do you want ? history ? Beaches ? Night life ?

The countries in Europe are very different - England is quite different to Spain which is different to Greece - so it all depends on what you want to do and see

It's both cheap hhe Turkey is a beautiful country. You can visit the cities of Muğla, Antalya, which should be seen especially on the south coast.

Stop thinking of Europe as a country, for a start. It's a continent.

All European countries have something going for them. If it's your first time coming over and you're a bit nervous about a language barrier, try the UK or Ireland where English is the main language.

Pretty much any European capital city, plus many of the other major and minor cities/towns.

Also a huge number of suburban locations.

Just pick a location, and go from there. Europe is immense in terms of the sheer number of places worth visiting, so don’t expect to do more than a tiny fraction of it even after many visits.

My personal favourites have been Barcelona (Spain), Majorca (Spanish Balearic Island), Lisbon and nearby Sintra in Portugal, Florence and Rome in Italy (Florence much nicer of the two, but Rome more historic), also Matera in southern Italy, Bath, Bristol, Brighton and London (all in England), also Oxford, Cambridge and Canterbury, St.Emilion and pretty much anywhere else in France, Bruge (Belgium), Amsterdam (Holland), and Istanbul in Turkey, which sits upon both Europe AND Asia.

That only scratches the surface. The Greek islands of Crete, Rhodes, Corfu and Kefalonia are all magical.

If you want cheap, then Turkey is hard to beat.

France is the most visited country in Europe but Rome has to be up there for one the best destinations.
