Have any of you experimented with maximum bit depths and sampling rates of WAV files to see which resolutions iPods will and will not play?

If so, what were the results, and if iPods wouldn't do what you wanted, what did you wind up using? I ask in part because Sony Hi-Res Walkmans are available, and I'm guessing other devices are, also.

not really sure why you'd need more than standard 16 bit 44.1kHz as you won't be able to hear anything differently after that, even with the most expensive headphones in the world.

take a look at this article about how even FLAC shouldn't be used for "better" sound.
