Any dog bred for security work, think of the working dogs, shepherds, rotweilers, dobermans, even labradors are all able to be trained to be as aggressive as you need but there are other breeds that are naturally aggressive, however they are usually bonded to just one person and often don’t accept other family members and some won’t take food from strangers so boarding and leaving them with friends doesn’t work.

Do your research on the breed and their temperaments before getting any dogs, one are very socIable and others are not. You need one that fits in your life style and is easily handled by a novice owner, some of the breeds need an assertive owner which doesn’t mean ty are tbe dominating and mean, it just means they have to give the command and reinforce it when the dog disobeys with the correction, the dog will look for leadership flaws and mistakes the owner makes, not see them as their owner and not bond with them when they loose their trust.

Many people if some of these powerful breeds have had to surrender them back to the facilitiess that trained them because they wanted a tough aggressive dog, yet the dog won’t work for them and listen to commands.

    Good luck and choose wisely.

Chow Chow, Dogo Argentino, Akita, some Rottweilers, but the first 3 are the most common.

I was going to say Presa Canario, but they are prone to turn on their masters occasionally.

I'd suggest none. There is a difference between being 'very aggressive' and not stupidly keen on strangers. My two will meet and greet, but in the case of my Whippet, do this, and then go back to scanning the horizon.

Any breed of dog can be aggressive and MOST dogs are friendly with their owners of course.

Aggression comes in many forms and not all dogs possess all the forms of aggression.

    There is:

    Dog to Dog Aggression.

    Dog to People " "

    Food Aggresssion

    Fear aggression

    Predatory " "

    Territorial " "

    Chase (prey) " "

    Possession Aggression.

    Pain " "

A dog that is Aggressive to all and sundry without good cause is an unstable natured dog, mostly acting out of fear and a confident dog will not act that way.

A truly aggressive unstable dog that lives to bite and attack everyone it sees is in this day and age is a liability to own and needs to be destroyed and would be deemed dangerous in the UK.

If someone wants a dog for protection, they need to purchase a sound natured fully trained Protection dog that will only attack when COMMANDED to do so by its handler, but is reliable and friendly under all other circumstances. This sort of dog costs a lot of money and is usually bred for the purpose to possess the correct temperament and inborn drives to do its job.

What Bob said! lol .. :D

No, actually any dog can be aggressive but friendly to their owners. It is how you raise them. People are often shocked at how aggressive the innocent looking lab can be and how passive and non- aggressive a pit bull can be.

There are certain dogs who instinctual chase prey who could fall into that category regarding smaller animals or smaller threats. However it really depends how the animal is raised and what "jobs" they can focus on doing.

For example work dogs NEED to work. Certain guard dogs are trained to guard as their job but are friendly to their owners/masters. To have a working dog takes a lot of time, love and training. You don't want an unbalanced, aggressive work dog. You want a well trained, responsive, work dog. Nowadays it is also helpful to have VERY good insurance as well.

For apartment dwellers most working dogs are not allowed in tenancy this now includes the Chow. I think with responsible pet parenting people can have well trained, well balanced work dogs. hooray! :D
