What should I do? Read Games of Thrones or Watch the TV show? If I should do both, which one first?

Years and years ago I read the first book of GOT. I didn't like it that much. Too dark. So I never watched the TV show. Now the TV show is all anybody ever talks about. Should I try rereading the books or skip the books and go straight to the TV show?

    Books are always better than the movie or TV shows. I base that on True Blood which is based on the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris
