Why does the check engine light come on in my car and when I check it I find nothing wrong?

Quit making jokes about this. The light comes on and you pull the trouble code with a code reader which tells what system or component is troublesome. Not all problems are visible by simple observation.

Because LOOKING at the engine isn't reading the codes that set the light.

If your vehicle is 1996 or newer, and built for sale in the US, it uses OBDII and even the cheapest reader WILL show all codes since the last reset, including codes no longer active.

Because you have a cheap *** code reader.

Go to Advance Auto and they will read the codes for you.
