my offhand guess is that both the i7 cpus are overkill. You have to be one multi boxing crazy gamer to need that many cores. I'm talking at least three screens with separate 'toons running in each ...

Source(s): i know guys who run six 'toons at once ... two in each of three screens and all on the one box ... no idea how they keep 'em all straight in their head

2080 for sure, you won't find a game that bottlenecks your system with the i7 anyway, while the 2080 will definitely show tangible improvements to performance

If both the 8700k and 9700k are clocked the same, the performance is about the same or within a 1% margin. The architecture behind both is the same. According to Silicon Lottery, the 8700k is a slightly better overclocker but you’d have to delid it if you want to take it above 5ghz. The 9700k is less of a hassle because Solder is used between the IHS and Silicon die.

When people have asked me if they should get the 8700k or 9700k, I tell them to go for the 8700k. Getting an RTX 2080 with the 8700k is beyond the realm of being a No-Brainer.

The 2080 is 15% to 20% faster than the 2070.

RTX 2080 over RTX 2070 all of the way!

go with the rig that has the faster chip. But you do not state anything about your needs. Are you just a gamer? Then go with the cheaper video card and better CPU as there aren't any games that require the better video card. On the other hand are you doing a lot of video editing?

Since you state absolutely nothing about your needs or even your expectations, nobody can give you any good advise.

    CPU price difference: $25

    GPU price difference: >$200

This makes me wonder what they are giving up or overcharging on other features to match price between the two systems. Memory? Hard drives? Mobo? Cooling? Case? Read the specs on each system carefully. Why not build your own system?

I'm not sure how you got that big of a price difference on the 8700k vs 9700k, but getting a RTX 2080 is a much better upgrade given the choice you laid out.
