Stomach gets lots of fluid in it and gets hard as a rock. What is this condition?

A girl I know has been getting fluid in her stomach for the last 3 weeks and the hospital is not giving her answers. They just put needles in and withdraw the fluid which is about a 2 liter bottle and she has to get this done about every 7-9 days. One doctor said she needs a liver transplant. But nobody is giving her a definite answer as to what this is. Anyone ever heard of this condition before? She is in misery.

The fluid is not in her stomach, its in the belly space (abdominal), and she is getting a paracentesis. This can be due to cirrhosis, ovarian cancer, and other illnesses; its just a symptom. A liver transplant suggests liver disease/cirrhosis. The fluid will just keep acci=accumulating because of protein and oncotic pressures. Pulling it off is just for comfort, not curative.

Just a note that my best friend that had this cirrhosis of the liver died July 7th.
