Is my friend going overboard??

So picture this it was a friday night and me and my friends were in a car. Donny told me to watch his phone while he got money from an atm. We had to drive off cause a friend of ours needed to be picked up and no one wanted to wait. i noticed that my pockets were full and i complained about this so my friend joked around saying to throw it out the window. Long story short i threw it out the window. Everybodys laughing. Then we went back to pick up donny and i tell him i lost his phone. He got pissed and started yelling then i have to buy him a new one. I HAVE TO BUY HIM A NEW ONE. ME! When clearly its his fault for giving it to me in the first place. And how its not my responsibility if it gets lost because its not mine. He's demanding i pay him a new one. It's ridiculous, i told him countless times it would have never gotten lost if he didnt give it to me...
