Why do people climb Mount Everest?

Think about the people who do it and that should answer your question. Most of them are Trump voters if that gives you any clue.

Getting in your car, going to a psychiatrist and taking the drugs they give you or to a doctor and taking the drugs they give you, and a lot of other things I can think of are probably just as dangerous. If you’re in shape, use oxygen, Go at a time when you don’t have other climbing parties holding you up on the fixed ropes, don’t get any freak storms , have a good guide and use good judgment and know when to push for the summit and when to turn back your chances of succeeding without dying are pretty decent. There’s only one really technical part of the climb which is the Hillary Step. The rest of it is just a walk up basically but you do have to be in shape

Seems like it's mostly a status symbol thing. An overpriced photo op to show off to people.
