what percentage of white people in the USA descend from people that owned slaves?

    I would say probably less than 10%. Slaves were concentrated mostly in large southern plantations.

    A small percentage, slowly rising.

    the vast majority of whites at the time were working class and had no slaves

    You should search your facts of last owned slaved in the united states history and see what is sees before you start with any living person today for the past.
