    1. Moved to less expensive apartment two years ago. Saving $100 a month.

    2. Gave up my carport. Saving $30 a month.

    3. No longer buy books; go to library.

    4. Do my own nails now instead of getting them done professionally. Save a minimum of $30 a month but I still get a pedicure in June.

    5. Stopped getting hair dyed professionally. Did it myself then gave up dyeing it altogether. No idea how much I've saved.

    6. No vacations anymore; can't afford them.

    7. My Honda Civic is a 1999 with 64,000 miles. Should (hopefully) last another 10 years IF parts are still available.

    8. If I were physically capable of working; I'd get a part-time job for extra spending money. I'm retired.

    Basically I just don't buy anything I don't need and when I do buy something I get it at my favorite thrift store.

    Here are some things that I think work great:

    -Don't eat out (bring a thermos with coffee as well as a lunch box with delicious homemade food to work)

    -Use public transport

    -Take advantage of budget vacations or simply discover local beauties

    -Do things yourself (repairs, outdoor chores, recycling things into new household items)

    -Take advantage of discounts and sales (mindful shopping)

    I have not bought a new vehicle in 19 years. {True !! No distant relatives, and public transportation to get to work.}

    I cut most of my firewood instead of buying it and grow my own vegetables. I'm not sure if I'm saving money when I add up the cost of chain saw maintenance, tractor repairs and fuel, but it saves me the cost of a gym membership.

    Look at all your bills & daily expenses. Make coffee at home rather than visiting your favorite coffee shop. Don't go out for your entertainment, no movies. Track every penny you spend & see where you can save money. And first of all, put money into saving every paycheck before you spend a dime.

    Track all your expenses and then you'll know when you are buying something you don't normally need. Ultimately best way to increase savings may be to increase earnings with little increase in expenses.

    We cut back on our trips to our villa in the south of France. We only go twice a year now instead of the three times we were going before. Last year we also went down a tier in our yacht club membership, only allowing us 3 yacht reservations per month instead of 4. We couldn't stand it so we upgraded again this year.
