Printing something that has 2 dimensions is 2D printing. Like printing a picture onto a paper. The picture requires two coordinates to specify a point on it (x & y axis). It has only length and height.

Printing something that has 3 dimensions is 3D printing. You 3D print a vase because at least 3 coordinates are required to specify a point within the vase (x, y, & z axis). The vase contains length, height, and width/depth.
