Since homocide is already illegal why do people think gun laws will help?

Homocide has the death penalty what could be a stronger punishment?

Homicide rarely carries the death penalty any more. More laws is a feel-good way a politician can claim he is doing something.

Because tighter restrictions on guns obviously work in countries that have them. It's very obvious, except to Americans.

Its the guns that do the killing not the people , once you start arresting all those bad guns out there and locking them up they will not be able to kill anymore

Before someone can be charged with homicide, they have to have killed someone. Tighter gun laws to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally unstable might help PREVENT some people getting killed. That's good, isn't it?

Gun laws may help because they will reduce the chances that a ''nutter'' will be able to legally own a gun, so the crime (if you are considered mentally unstable) will be actually ''owning one'' even before you go out and kill with it.

There is nothing wrong with an ordinary sane person owning one, but it shouldn't be SO EASY to just go out and buy one in the first place

.. and a ''nutter'' isn't going to care about the death penalty when they go out on a killing spree.

I guess it depends what the gun laws are. Not allowing anybody to own a gun at all is silly, as people would get them illegally anywayl Stricter screening and more in depth background checks could potentially prevent SOME gun crime. However this can only be taken to a certain level, and it won't help with everyone as people change everyday. A person doesn't wake up a murderer, it takes time for someone to become so damaged they decide to take the lives of others.

Stricter gun laws would really only work if someone is entering the country with a gun or if someone is already exhibiting homicidal tendencies

Some people must be naïve and think people are going to think 'We aren't allowed guns anymore, I'd better not murder anyone with one then' when in actual fact they're just going to illegally obtain one and shoot the place up.

Look at states with the death penalty and their murder rates. Usually higher than those without. Death penalty is not a deterrent.

Gun laws help because they help stop people from having guns in the first place. Harder to kill 20 people with a knife.

medieval torture devices could be the next penalty for homicide who wants to risk being tortured in an iron maiden or be hanged drawn and quartered.

The Left is perfectly aware "gun control laws" have no effect on crime or violence. Sooooo, who exactly is the Left working to "control"?
