Is Northern Virginia the south ?

It is a widespread region radiating westward and southward from Washington, D.C.     Yes, Northern Virginia is part of the south. It is a part of the state of Virginia, which is part of the south.

    As someone that lives in Northern Virginia, I would say NO not really. It doesn't have the culture and personality of the south. It is not really the North, either. It's pretty unique because basically a melting pot of people that either work for the government, for high tech/defense contractors, the military., or the infrastructure to support region.

    It's debatable.

    Richmond is centrally located in Va. It was the Capitol of the confederacy. West Va. was formed by splitting Va. and became part of the union. So, there's fringe.
