You could say that calico and tortoiseshell cats are "autistic," in the sense of being anti-social and withdrawn. They are not mean or vicious; but they are stubborn loners, even by cat standards. If you can gain the friendship of one of those cats, it's quite an accomplishment.

The word 'autism' is from the Greek word for 'self' - 'auto'. It was a word invented by a phychologist who wanted to describe his morbidly self-obsessed patients.

I don't know of any animals that are crippled by self-concern the way most people are. Animals live in the moment. They don't 'reason' things out. They have intelligence and will and emotions, but most are just driven by instinct... some animals are only born to be destroyed. Don't be like them. Reason this out: your purpose in life is only known by the one who made you. Go to Him to find out what that purpose is.

Autism is a language disorder. Without establishing an organized language in animals, we can't really say if they can have autism or not.

Anyway, if we follow the age-old "survival of the fittest" adage, autistic animals who wouldn't behave appropriately wouldn't survive for long.

Animals don't get autism. It's not defined in lower states of conscious. But this bunny rabbit next door has a hell of a time in eye-contact
