What's the empirical observation? CHEMISTRY?

Net reaction:

Ni^2+(aq) + Cd(s) --> Cd^2+(aq) + Ni(s)

Oxidation half reaction:

Cd(s) --> Cd^2+ (aq) + 2e^-

Reduction half reaction:

Ni^2+(aq) + 2e^- --> Ni(s)

Oxidizing agent: Ni^2+ (s)

Reducing agent: Cd(s)

    Nickel and cadmium ....

    Cadmium is located between iron and cobalt and above nickel. You would observe nickel metal forming on cadmium as the cadmium is oxidized to form Cd2+ ions.
