Why would someone ask question and address to say 'Christians' as if poster already knew the source either way of the opinion?

    For the same reason a doctor might ask another doctor a medical question. They're looking for consistency in response. If there isn't a consistent response, then it's likely that the collective may not be on the same page regarding a doctrine or practice.
