Why would post divorce parenting matter warrant court intervention unless one wanted to deny all visual contact to the other?

Update:

It is a huge expense and time consuming

Visual contact denial is a good example of something that could mushroom into a major post-divorce issue, but usually the court will encourage settlement so that the court's time is not taken up with ex-spouses who don't have the wisdom or maturity to iron out custody and other issues themselves and not go bothering the judge again.
