Is my check still valid?
I picked up my check from work tonight and I noticed something different. The check itself was detached from the paystub which usually comes attached. So I flipped the check over, and it has been signed by somebody else and has a long white out line on it but I can still see through it and I’m assuming it was a stamp from a bank. Im trying to assume the best here and that they realized they had made a mistake and the bank tried to fix it. My question is, is it still valid? Could I deposit it? My main concern is obviously that somebody stole my check. However they keep it locked in the nurses medicine cart (I work at a nursing home) and I never got a call, nothing saying they made a mistake and need to send a new check. Since it’s the weekend no one from management is there, I’m so angry and irritated I could cry. Did someone really steal my check, or was it a mistake that was fixed. >:(

Maybe a mistake they tried to fix. Idk because I only did one cheque once and it was a royal mail service that failed and went lost in the post. It took me nearly half a year to get the money back. Haven't trusted cheques since. I think you could return it and ask that the cheque is written more clearly and say your bank doesn't process it otherwise as part of their regulations.

If it was in the endorsement area, it WAS NOT from the bank and is legally meaningless. If it was somewhere else on the back of the check, it IS a problem, regardless of what it is.
Note: It is obvious NO ONE stole your check. They mistakenly handed the wrong check to someone else. They detached it from the stub and endorsed it without looking. When they tried to deposit it, the bank noticed the name didn't match and declined to accept it. Then they returned it for their own.

I'll stop by in the morning and take it to the bank and ask them. How does 9:00 sound?

Pretty simple answer. Call the bank that issued it, tell them that, and ask if the check has been cashed or not yet. If they won't tell you, then talk to whoever issued the check, and have them call the bank, and ask if the check has been cashed yet.
