Yes, to a degree- This is when Socialism is in its early stages, when things are still beneficial for the People. Remember what Bolshevik/Marxist Lenin said, "The purpose of Socialism is Communism".
As long as you don't elect Leaders who lean far to the left, all will go well but remember, there are always crypto Marxists (Obama, Clinton) who will push the envelope, inch it forward bit by bit, incrementally stripping the People of their Rights. We're witnessing this currently across the West with forced Cultural Marxism.
When ever you have Politicians threatening to remove 2A & minimalizing FreeSpeech via censorship, that's when you know you're heading into deep waters. This is typical Socialist/Communist M.O. check Mao, Hitler, Stalin,
et al- Leave the populace with no means of self defense.
The People must always be on guard where Socialism is concerned. You can't fall asleep at the wheel when you have a quasi Socialist Government continually restricting your rights and putting more control into its hands.

No those are social programs. The government does not own businesses. But yes, more people are sucking on welfare than any country on earth. SS and medicare are different cause people pay into them for a lifetime to get benefits.

We are about 50% socialist. I come up with that number from the general government revenue combined with the costs of following regulations.
We know very well that 100% socialism destroys society utterly and completely.
Fact is that becoming more socialist will cause serious problems. The only reason you can point to countries like the Netherlands as being OK, is because they have far less regulations that cause businesses problems.
You NEED absolutely NEED capitalism to provide the resources for ANY socialist program. Socialism does NOT make, it takes and redistributes with some massive overhead.
