I'm not so disturbed as to eat bread out of a dead bird's butt.

Bread cut into cubes, chopped onion, garlic and celery finely diced. I also add in some chopped walnuts and chopped dried cranberries. I use butter and olive oil for the fats and cook the onions garlic and celery slightly.

I put in a large amount of fresh sage chopped and a smaller amount of fresh rosemary and thyme in with the butter and olive oils and cook them up just slightly to extract some of the flavor in the oil. Next I mix it in with the bread cubes. I add enough salt to bring the taste up and some black pepper, then I moisten the whole batch with vegetable stock and put it in a slow cooker for like 4 hours on low.

Just the basics; bread, seasonings, celery, and onion. Never cared for it being over the top, or adding apples and sausage. I've always like it just as is with some crunch thrown in.
