Not possible, police and military would never allow their own families to have their rights violated. Now we come to rights, the Bill of Rights is untouchable, no politician would dare to attack it directly. Besides the Second Amendment, you also have to contend with the Fifth which states that government cannot confiscate property without due process of law. A portion of the Fourteenth Amendment also states this. Strange is that the NRA never points this out, but rather rants about how Rosie O'Donnell and Nancy Pelosi will come to your house and take your guns if you don't send them $100 every month.

There are also "conservatives" who want to water down the constitution about the right to firearm ownership.

It is in reality a radical (left or right) agenda thing.

Several of those pushing that agenda think enough US citizens will surrender their weapons for it to be effective.

However, it would not be possible with so many privately held firearms.

The US has a gun problem that no other country has. There has been a movement to ban use of arms designed, for the army, for mass killing.
