Depends on the size of the fish

If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day,

But if you teach him how to fish, he will soon empty the sea of its fishes

    ... whatever his religion.

'Prayer' includes dynamic interactive psychological experiences offering us direct arriving genius for problem solving. Fishing is one of the 'universal arts' comprising the language of holy scripture which represent the 'divine language' we apply to all of human experience in search of more of this genius. Science itself was born during this contemplation process inside the original 'university' system founded by Christian prodigy. All future 'sciences' will be born this way also.

"...attaining to all the wealth that comes from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, 3in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4I say this so that no one will delude you with persuasive argument." (Colossians 2:2-4).

Most prayer happens while dynamically applying what GOD sends us. No one 'waits around' for genius from GOD to apply itself.  That isn't how prayer works.

Since the most religious people I know are doing better financially than myself, no, I do not believe that to be true.

    I don't believe that.

Christians KNOW god won't provide, which is why they work to feed themselves and form charities to feed others.

They KNOW god won't heal them. Which is why they go to doctors instead of faith healers.

The only reason a god would need people to do his work for him is because he can do nothing for himself.

That's why you teach him how to fish, so he can feed himself for life.
