Would this be considered stealing and could I get the cops called on me?

Theoretically let’s say I was at a store and I was putting merchandise in my bag but then I saw the camera and took it right out of my bag. If I left the store could they have done anything

Borderline. You certainly could get in trouble, yes.

You were IN THE PROCESS of intentionally concealing merchandise with the intent of taking it without paying.

When you had reason to believe you had been CAUGHT, you tried to back out of it.

State laws vary, but in many jurisdictions, you can be charged the INSTANT you conceal an item.

In ALL jurisdictions, you can be convicted the instant you leave the store.

You would not get more than a lifetime ban from the store

It is a crime to attempt to steal, but i don't think any store owner/manager would bother to try to prosecute /press charges
