Is my primary doctor prescribing me medication the same as a Psychiatrists prescribing me?

I’ve been trying to see a psychiatrist for months but instead my doctor prescribed my medication

I don't think primary docs or gp's can prescribe psychoactive meds only shrinks and psychiatrists can.

Did you tell the doctor what drugs you are on?  Every time I go to the doctor, I get a list of drugs I'm on and asked to verify I'm still taking them AND add any new ones.

Maybe your problem isn't such that you NEED to see a psychiatrist.
