Why are the actors in movies today so devoid of personality, unlike the actors of the 70s to the 90s?
I mean compare Carrie Fisher to Daisy Ridley. Where are the actors like Danny Devito, Rhea Perlman, Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino, Bette Midler, Woody Allen, John Travolta, etc.?

In my opinion, it's the film makers that are to blame. Not the actors. When you have talentless screen writers, incompetent directors, and agenda driven producers and studio heads you get subpar cinematic storytelling. Actors can only work with what they are given. If they are given bad dialog, bad direction, and are poorly cast it's not their fault.

Actors and actresses around 1960 and before were protected from scandal much more than they are today by the studios.
