Food is basic need for humans and other lives and more so for highly populated nations like China and India with India failing in population control measures. Also there are constraint on availability of land area and availability of acceptable quality of water and weather conditions are unreliable. Growing trend is for water conservation, capture and storage, using no chemical fertilizers and pesticides, growing crops that consume less water and less space, use of soil-less farming or ponics or vertical farming. The alternative is farming of fish, meat and poultry as lot of population of the world is non-vegetarian.

I'm not sure what you mean. Agriculture has been in existence since the dawn of civilization, and will continue to be a significant part of society as long as people keep eating.
